How To Cure Snoring

January 1st, 2010 No comments

Snoring is a troublesome, annoying noise made by a person during sleep due to improper breathing. Almost 30% of the population suffers from snoring. Snoring is more common in men than women, as men have narrower throats than women. It affects some children also. Snoring is of several types, mild snoring, severe snoring and sleep apnea. Snoring generally makes a loud and unpleasant and discomforting sound. Generally a person sleeping alone doesn’t come to know that he/she is suffering from snoring. Snoring is vibrations of soft tissues in throat like uvula, soft palate, adenoids and tonsils. Sleep apnea is the severest form of snoring in which the person’s breathing gets blocked, so the person wakes up frequently to breathe. However, the person doesn’t remember waking up.

Snoring is not just a nuisance. It has lot of ramifications like a sleepless partner, unhappy marital life, hypertension, sleepiness during day, loss of productivity, high blood pressure, stroke, weaker immune system etc. the sleepiness during day is generally because either the person is awakened by his own snoring noise or the partner wakes up due to jostling by the partner. Most of the time the snorer is not aware of waking up. Studies indicate that snoring causes strain in relationship, and there is an inverse relationship between frequency of sexual activity in partners and snoring.

The cause of snoring is that the breathing passage is blocked. The blockage may be because of tongue falling in throat, relaxation of throat, mispositioned jaw, throat congestion by fat in obese people, nasal deformities like deviated septum, enlarged adenoids and tonsils etc. There are lots of home remedies and other medical remedies available to cure snoring.

The simplest cure for snoring is to sleep on side. Sleeping on the back causes the soft palate and uvula to distend into the throat and block it. Sleeping on the side removes this congestion. This generally cures snoring in mild snorers. This can be achieved by keeping a tennis ball in the back pocket, which causes discomfort to the person whenever he tries to sleep on his back.

Reducing obesity and increasing aerobic activities also benefit a lot. It is beneficial to quit smoking also. Avoid eating heavy food, milk products, sleeping pills and antihistamines before sleeping. Nasal decongestants are also beneficial. Studies have shown that playing didgeridoo on a regular basis gives exercise to throat and reduce snoring. Didgeridoo is an Australian wind instrument and can be bought in musical instrument stores or online.

If the above methods do not help, there are medical methods:

• Continuous Positive Air Pressure: In this a mask is put on the snorers mouth which provides continuous air pressure in throat. Results generally are good.

• Appliances: A variety of dental appliances, jaw positioners, nasal clips, oral devices are available which help in alleviating snoring.

• Surgical Methods: They are called thermal ablation palatoplasty. In these the throat congestion is removed by surgical methods. They include methods like Bipolar Cautery, Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty and Somnoplasty. Surgical methods require anesthesia except Somnoplasty.

• Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy: They are generally used to reduce snoring problems in children.

Finding The Best Stop Snoring Solutions

December 31st, 2009 No comments

Everyone wants to know how to find the best stop snoring solutions. Rather than using the trial and error method, which can be both frustrating and very expensive, there are several proven ways that are known to treat or even cure snoring altogether.

If at all possible, it is a good idea to find natural stop snoring solutions as opposed to having to resort to surgery. A company known as Odyssey Direct Solutions has invented a very powerful, and proven, natural method to stop snoring. It does not include medicine, doctor visits or invasive surgery. It is, however, doctor recommended.

The Sleep Genie, as it is fittingly titled, offers the sleeper a way to support their jaw comfortably while allowing their mouth to remain closed. Open mouth sleeping is one of the leading causes of snoring, which can be eliminated during the first night of using this product.

In addition to the Sleep Genie, many snoring sufferers find the treatment of allergies to be one of the stop snoring solutions. It is a proven fact that allergies, sinus infections and a cold or the flu may cause various breathing difficulties. As the nasal passages restrict breathing in the nighttime, snoring often results.

In order to minimize the inconvenience naturally while reopening air passages, many individuals find that breathing steam from hot running water helps to ease their breathing.

This is especially helpful if done just before bedtime. In addition, always make sure to have air filtration systems in every room of the home and especially in the bedroom.

These units remove an amazing amount of dust and other allergens in the air and will continue to do so as long as the filters are regularly changed. One of the best ways to treat allergies and other sinus infections is to remove as many allergens from the home as possible, including pet hair, cigarette smoke and dust.

By easing allergies, the individual is able to breathe better, the nasal passages become less restricted and snoring is not as problematic.

Another of the top snoring solutions is to simply try sleeping on your side as opposed to your back. Individuals who sleep on their back are more susceptible to snoring because the fatty tissue relaxes against the back of their throat and, again, restricts air intake.

It may be easy to fall asleep on your side, but what if you turn over in the night? If this is a concern, simply place a large body pillow next to you so that you will not easily be able to return to sleeping on your back.

In addition, you may also try a special pillow designed to stop snoring or elevate your head slightly with the use of two standard pillows. This may help breathing and prevent air blockage.

As strange as it may seem, weight loss is among the stop snoring solutions. What does weight have to do with snoring? You may be surprised to learn that individuals who are overweight or have been diagnosed with obesity are more likely to snore.

A medically supervised diet and exercise program may be among the stop snoring solutions, but it is also a good idea for overall health.

Sleeping on your side is a terrific home remedy for snoring. Research shows that individuals who sleep on their back snore more often than side sleepers. Another good home remedy for snoring is to sleep on two pillows instead of one. The additional few inches of elevation may help you to breathe better through the night, which may help you to say goodbye to snoring altogether.

If you are an allergy sufferer, there may be a home remedy for snoring that you can use to also help eliminate your allergy symptoms. When airway passages become restricted, which is often the case with allergies, snoring is a possible result. Breathing steam from hot running water is a home remedy for snoring that is also great for opening the nasal passages and improving breathing. In addition, ridding your home of airborne allergens with the use of air filtration units can help to get rid of many airborne allergens.

Many snoring sufferers, who are searching for the perfect home remedy for snoring, turn to anti-snoring aids for help. The Sleep Genie is one such device, which is doctor recommended. Effective Home Remedies For Snoring

December 31st, 2009 No comments

It begins at home and is only fitting that it is treated at home. There are a number of home remedies for snoring, which can allow you to take control of your nights and enjoy the quality of sleep that you deserve.

One of the most effective home remedies for snoring is to sleep on your side. If you always find yourself sleeping on your back, you may never guess that your sleeping position is directly linked to snoring. When you sleep on your back, the muscles and tissue are more likely to relax in the back of the throat, restrict your airway passage and cause snoring. In addition, sleeping on two pillows instead of one is among the popular home remedies for snoring. The additional elevation may help to keep your airways open.

If you suffer from allergies, try inhaling steam from hot running water before you go to bed. The heat may help to open up the nasal passages and improve breathing. The same is true if you are prone to sinus infections or have recently been diagnosed with a cold or the flu. One of the best home remedies for snoring is to simply improve the quality of air that you breathe. If your airways are restricted, snoring is much more likely. By ridding your home of allergens, you will increase air quality and enjoy the benefits of cleaner air. The presence of air filtration units in every room, especially the bedroom, is a good idea.

A majority of physicians will recommend trying a variety of home remedies for snoring before resorting to invasive surgery. After all avenues have been pursued without success, a doctor may consider a surgical procedure. In addition, if home remedies for snoring do not provide effective results, the sufferer may have sleep apnea. This is a serious condition which, if left untreated, may result in heart disease, an increased likelihood of a stroke or other medical problem. Sleep apnea occurs when the sufferer’s airway passages become completely blocked and they stop breathing completely on multiple occasions throughout the night. Home remedies for snoring are ideal if your snoring is just an inconvenience, but are not intended to cure sleep apnea.

Determining The Cause Of Snoring

December 30th, 2009 No comments

Many things promise to cure it, but what exactly causes it? The cause of snoring varies from one individual to another, but there are several leading factors that are believed to behind this nighttime nuisance.

Obesity is believed to be a leading cause of snoring. Many physicians, therefore, recommend a program of diet and exercise in an effort to not only prevent snoring, but also to promote better health. If you have recently been diagnosed as being either overweight or obese, it may be time to consider a quality program to help shed some pounds along with your snoring habit.

Another main cause of snoring is when individuals sleep on their back. When this happens, the muscles and tissue tend to relax in the back of the throat and restrict air passages. By sleeping on your side, you may help to eliminate this problem and greatly reduce snoring.

The aging process is believed to be another cause of snoring. Researchers believe that, as the skin in the throat ages, it begins to lose it’s elasticity. When this happens, it is more likely to relax and cause air passages to be restricted.

Sleep apnea is a disorder that is also a serious cause of snoring. Symptoms include excessive snoring, pauses between breathing, awakening through the night with a feeling of choking or gasping for air, etc.

The reason this occurs is because, with sleep apnea, the airways become completely blocked and the sufferer actually stops breathing on multiple occasions throughout the night. Sleep apnea, if left untreated, may often lead to more serious medical conditions. Among them, heart problems, a stroke or other serious illness.

A sleep study, which is generally ordered by a physician, may help to diagnose the direct cause of snoring for each individual. The snoring sufferer spends one night at a sleep center, which monitors his/her breathing and snoring patterns throughout the night. The results are then studied by a physician who makes a final diagnosis.

Say Goodbye To Snoring and Hello Sleep

imagesI am so excited to post more snoring solutions on this blog. I have suffered for so long and to find a product that works is a blessing. I have found a guard that is comfortable effective and best of all affordable.

How it works: Research has shown that a jaw supporter keeps the lower jaw in and upward position, this increases the three dimensional airway space, therefore not allowing the muscles to relax and hence no vibration or snoring. If you haven no idea what I am refereeing too, read my previous blog post where, I have detailed the cause of snoring due to muscles relaxation and this vibration that occurs. So the simple action of keeping our head in place with the guard can eliminate or reduce snoring for good.

My favorite part about this snoring solution is that there is clinical research to back it up. I must admit this is why I was drawn to this product; I am a sucker for research. The research shows that not only the devise works but also how lack of sleep due to snoring worsens the situation. It is like a problem that continues to get worse and worse if you don’t treat it. My favorite section is the information of the five stages of sleep and how I was finally able to reach stage 5 REM sleep. REM sleep is like utopia this is where our bodies’ really relax and we dream.
